  • Hair/fur, how to?

    Hello,
how to set up hair/fur to render in vray for modo?
Adding guides or simply standard modo fur doesn't seem to work
Also, during the beta, some specific modo oriented manual for vray will show up?
    Thanks,
    M.

For modo's fur, you can use the Render -> Bake Geometry Cache to convert it to curves, and then use the "render curves" option in the resulting mesh items to make it render with V-Ray.
The Foundry guys are doing improvements to the API so you will be able to skip this step, as V-Ray will be able to get the curves directly.
Unfortunately I don't think the "bake geometry cache" works perfectly for fur at the moment. In my tests it sometimes crashed in modo 701,
and the resulting curves were wrong in modo 801. These issues will have to be addressed by The Foundry.

If you have hair stored in an alembic file, you can use it in a V-Ray proxy item.

Thank you Vladimir, this is the approach which I also discovered but as you said, the outcome is not exactly "right" atm. Good to know that in the meantime it was adressed and is in wip st. at the Foundry.

I also want to render HAIR with V-RAY inside MODO !!
Vladimir, can you explain a bit more please? How do I store hair in an Alembic file??
And how was the beautiful hair in the V-Ray/Modo video generated or imported (www.v-ray.com/modo/)?

        Thanks and best regards.

The hair in that video was probably created in some other 3d application and then exported to an alembic file.
The file was then selected in the V-Ray proxy item ( which can be created from the Item List viewport from the "Add item" menu).
