  • Spherical camera

Are there any plans to implement spherical camera for creating 360 views in the forseeable future? Have to move back to v-ray for rhino with project that involves spherical renderings.
    Bests,

Yes, do you have access to the nightly builds ? I can add the options to the "V-Ray Camera" tab very easily. You will be able to "override" the MODO camera type
and select any of the camera types from other versions of V-Ray.

      That would be very cool!
I have the access to the nightlies and am downloading current versions often.
Generaly I can use V-Ray for production renders and the lack of spherical camera is the only one that forces me to switch to another programs/render engines.

The nightly build from 20141103 has the spherical camera.

V-Ray for MODO will recognize the "orthohraphic" and "spherical" camera projection types that MODO has. The cylindrical one is also exported but it won't work correctly, as you need to manually set the "height" parameter from the "V-Ray camera" settings.
The V-Ray camera tab now also has options to override the MODO camera projection type and FOV. There you can find all camera types available in other integrations of V-Ray with the same options.
When using the "Spherical" camera from the V-Ray camera tab, you need to manually set the FOV to 360 degrees like in other integrations of V-Ray. If you use the spherical projection type from the MODO options, without overriding it,
the 360 degree view will be set automatically by the exporter ( so the behavior matches MODO ).

Both the cylindrical and spherical cameras in V-Ray show what is in front of the camera in the center of the final image, whereas MODO shows what is behind the camera in the center of the final image.
Let me know if you prefer the MODO behavior, I can probably fix it with some simple rotation/flipping of the camera.

Note that currently you can't change the camera type in RT mode, it won't update. Still the rest of the camera parameters will update - override FOV, FOV, cylindrical height, fish eye parameters,
if you need to interactively setup the camera view.

Wow, that was fast. Thank you Vladimir! Works like a charm - I am using only spherical projection type, so it works just with modo settings. V-Ray interpretation showing in the center what is in front of the camera seems more intuitive to me than modo version. I would leave it as it is.

You need to have a hardware dongle from another version of V-Ray. And then I am not sure, I think there is some approval process.

We will be releasing a new open beta build, hopefully in the coming week.
