While 2sided material requires sub materials created in schematic view I cannot figure out how to connect bump maps to them. Are there channels responsible for that? If not, would it be possible to expose them to the schematic view?

That's what I was wondering too with normal maps. I have managed to make it work by putting bump/normal map above 2sided material in shader tree, but I don't know how to have two different maps for front and back material.

I didn't think of connecting bump/normal maps to the sub-materials. I am planning of adding a "V-Ray Blend Material" that will have its sub-materials work in the Schematic as well. It will be even more important to have bump/normal connections for it.
MODO's material has the following new channels since MODO 801 : bump value/displacement value/stencil value. These are the channels to which schematic connections are supposed to be made for the corresponding texture effects.
I haven't made them work in V-Ray (stencil value doesn't seem to work in MODO's renderer either).

So I will probably add them to V-Ray's materials, with an additional "normal map" color channel for connecting normal maps.

So, it is finally possible to connect bump/normal maps to the sub-materials of the 2-sided and blend materials.
This will be in the nightly build from 2015-04-02, as well as in the 3.00.06 open beta build.

Here is the excerpt from the change-log:
          (*) Nodal Shading: Added export for Schematic connections to the "Bump Value", "Displacement Value" and "Stencil Value" channels of MODO's material;
          (*) Nodal Shading: Added "Bump Value" and "Normal Map" channels to all V-Ray materials. These can be used to connect bump and/or normal maps to V-Ray materials in the Schematic;

If you want to connect a normal map to MODO's own material (in case you are using it as a sub-material of a 2-sided or blend material), you need to a add a color user channel to it,
which is called "normalMap" and connect the normal map to that.

Some screen-shots showing the connections :

These last fixes will actually be in the nightly build from 2015-04-08. I forgot I was working in a separate development branch.
The fixes will be in the 3.00.06 open beta build as well.

I'm just loaded Vray for Modo 2 days ago, and first of all it looks good.
But, I have a lot of already finished trees (leafs made with Modo Subsurface) why Modo render cannot read the subsurface material?
Just specular and so on, but no subsurface.
Do I have to change all leaves to 2sided or SSS2 Vray Material?
Or is there a chance Vray renderer can use Modo subsurface, too?

I could try exporting the SSS part of MODO's material to V-Ray, but it won't be a perfect match. Maybe in a future version.
In any case, using a V-Ray 2-sided material would probably result in faster rendering.

Thank you. Do you have a tip, how to organize it?
I don't know Vray very well, but I guess it is in many case much more comfortable then Modo renderer.
Please check the image, could it be the right way?
Just the diffuse image is too transparent, how can I adjust that?
More Volume or gamma it's getting black, less more transparent.

A leaf has a different texture on each of its sides. So you should find textures like this, and then assign them
to the diffuse color of the front and back materials. This can only be done in the Schematic (and only since MODO 801).
For the translucency texture you will probably need a separate black / white texture. This texture can
be connected in the Schematic, or as you have done, in the Shader Tree.

This tutorial explains it very well for V-Ray for 3ds Max, I think : http://vray.info/tutorials/leafmaterial/
Let me know if you have troubles converting the example to V-Ray for MODO.

Actually here is a MODO scene with the converted leaf material, the textures used are from the original tutorial, so all credit to Peter Guthrie for them. Some of the meshes come from MODO's default content library.

I have set up a tree and I am trying to save it a s item preset but the materials that I set up in the schematic for the 2sided material don't come along when I add it to a new scene. How can I save it properly so they load with the assets?

Can you tell me what version of MODO you are using ?
Are you saving the Preset by right-clicking on the mesh and then Presets -> Save... ? Or are you saving it as an "Assembly" preset from the Schematic ?

We had some discussion about this here : http://forums.chaosgroup.com/showthr...ghlight=preset

I just tried saving a mesh preset with the leaf material I posted earlier in this thread, and it seems to work (tried MODO 801 SP5 and 901 SP1), although the materials/textures that were in the "Nodes" folder don't get imported back in the "Nodes" folder.
They get imported only in the main Schematic workspace. If you drag the 2-sided material from the shader tree back into the Schematic, the connections show up.
You can add those nodes to the Shader Tree before saving the preset, and then they are imported back in the shader tree.
This setup has the benefit of the diffuse texture of the leaf showing up in MODO's OpenGL viewport.
                              Here is a screen-shot :

Note that the 2-sided material needs to be on top, so it will override the front/back side materials.

I am using modo 901 and saving by right clicking on the item and choosing save... I also tried save assembly...

I will try adding the nodes to the shader tree when I get a chance . That seems to be what I am looking for.

                                Thanks
