  • Visible Point Lights

    Hi guys!

First of all a Happy New Year to you all!

Would it be possible to add the "Invisible" and "Affect Reflections" options to point light sources?
OK, for a default point light with radius zero this doesn't make much sense, but as soon as you turn the point light into a sphere / area light by increasing the radius this would give you a spherical area light that V-Ray usually supports.

    Thanks
    Steffen

P.S.: I wonder why the MODO renderer doesn't support this feature as well. Maybe I'll post a feature request there, too.

When you increase the radius of a point light, it doesn't actually become a spherical area light. The soft shadows are just faked.
My guess is MODO does something similar, and that's why you don't have these options there as well.

I was going to add a "Make area light" option to the "V-Ray Light" tab for points lights with radius > 0.
When you check it, the "affect reflections" and "invisble" options will also show up.

Wow! This sounds like a nice "hack"

      Thanks

So this option is added for the 2015-03-29 nightly build, as well as for the 3.00.06 open beta build.
It is called "Make spherical light" in the UI, and is under "Light type specific parameters" in the "V-Ray Light" tab, when a Point light is selected.
The option itself won't update in RT for now.
The light's radius, radiance, invisible and affect diffuse/specular/reflections options will update properly.
