  • Completely new to V-Ray: Where is a good place to start learning V-Ray for MODO?

    Hi everyone,

I am completely new to V-Ray, and I am looking for the best place to find a complete introduction into how it works and how to use it with MODO. I am very excited about it, but would really like to understand some core principles and a how-to overview before I jump into trying to render with it. Where does a first time user begin?

    Thanks for any input.

Since V-Ray in MODO is very new, I don't think there are any specific learning resource for it. All the render settings/material options
are pretty much the same as in other versions of V-Ray though. So any tutorials on V-Ray for 3dsMax/Maya/Rhino, etc. should help you.
If you can't find an option referenced in some tutorial, you can always ask in this forum.

The official V-Ray for 3ds Max help also has some tutorials (near the end on the left menu):
    http://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/V...r+3ds+Max+Help

It's a bit unfortunate that you need to be familiar with 3ds Max though.

Thank you very much for your response, Vladimir. I will look into it with the 3ds Max tutorials.

I thought this was pretty straight forward and informative:

Yeah, however keep in mind that for a beginner, it's probably a bit too advanced. The tutorial is good for optimization, but V-Ray will render things out even without that, using f.e. the progressive sampler.

          Best regards,
          Vlado
I only act like I know everything, Rogers.
