  • Compared to Modos preview, VFB is a bit washed out

I'm a total noob to vray and I'm testing a plain scene with the orange from the modo content library.

I compare modos preview (with sRGB lut applied) and the VFB (with the sRGB button activated). Without srgb button it looks too dark (of course). On the other hand, with it pressed the image looks a bit too bright, like the gamma compensation is not 2.2, but more like 2.4 or something. The orange in the color swatch in the material corresponds better to Modos own renderer.

So what am I missing? Is vray always a bit brighter? Probably not, right? Can I decide how much the srgb button compensates somewhere?

    I'm on a mac btw.

    Thanks,

    Chris

Yes, that's a problem with our VFB on Mac, I think we are not correctly telling Mac OS X that the VFB pixels are in the sRGB color space.
Which results in the OS applying some additional color transformation that we don't want to happen. Should be fixable.

Can you try saving a .png file from the VFB ? That should match MODO's final render.

By the way, on Mac MODO's preview and final render don't match either. You can check this by making a luminous only material (no diffuse, no specular),
rendering with the preview and final render, and then using the "Digital Color Meter" from /Applications/Utilities to compare the colors.

Aha, good to know. The saved png file indeed does match modos final render.

      Thanks,
