  • Network rendering

One question concerning network render. How exactly is the plan to make that work with Modo?
Is there some batch rendering where I can set render engine?
Or do I need a standalone version of Vray to do that...?

PS: Not distributed rendering but per frame rendering.

Ok, so in order to render on a farm, it is possible to simple copy Vray as a kit (or config) and then run the batch command. What I get in Modo is vray.render however I'm not sure if that also runs as batch. Would be cool to get some info, so we can test that.

I've tested it and V-Ray (the vray.render command) does run when started from MODO batch (modo_cl). What will happen is V-Ray will open up its
VFB window (we can disable this if needed) and save the image if the "Final Color Output" render element has an ""Output Filename" specified.

If you want to render a single frame, but want the filename to have the frame number, you need to set the "first frame" and "last frame"
channels of the Render item to the frame number and use the "vray.render animation:true" command.

We actually use this mode to run our internal unit tests for V-Ray for MODO.

You must run the V-Ray for MODO installation on the farm machines (not just copy the kit), as it sets some environment variables.

Cool thanks. What software do you use for net rendering with Modo?
I know a developer that just work on a very good solution for Modo, I will contact him to support Vray.

I haven't tried any network rendering software with MODO. I just use modo_cl on my local machine to run the unit tests.
