  • smoothing on material

I have an object with a very subtle kink in it. If I add a modo material by default it renders smooth, but if I make the smoothing angle 0 the knink is visible (I need to see it)
Trying to replicate that with a vray material the smoothing also make it looks like a flat plane. I tried all different settings with the smoothing and the smoothing angle but all looks the same.
Is this function working yet? I am attaching a sample of the effect I need visible

It is working, but changing the smoothing amount or angle is not auto-updated in the 3D view-port. You need to disable and then enable again the V-Ray material for the change to take effect.
It seems that this happens even with the MODO material, but only for the Preview render window.

The smoothing parameters are something that is handled entirely by MODO, so they should work the same in a MODO or a V-Ray material.
For custom materials like V-Ray's material, it seems it is not possible to tell MODO that one of these settings has changed.
I've asked The Foundry about this and got no answer back, maybe I should ask again.

ok, so I need to deactivate a material when I set the smoothing and reactivate everytime I change these.... I haven't done that in my previous tests. I will remember. Thanks Vladimir
