  • Modo fur and Vray hair shader questions?

I noticed on vray for Modo hair shader material is a listed feature. How does it work with Modo fur? Or does Vray shader allow creation of fur/hair from scratch in Vray (styles and quides)? Or Modo users have to bake out Modo fur info first to render in Vray? Is there or will there also be native modo fair/ hair capability in Vray especially for Modo 901?

    Thanks

V-Ray Hair material can be used only to shade a hair and fur geometry in the scene. It doesn't include tools for modeling or styling.

There are 2 ways to render hairs in V-Ray for Modo:
Use an Alembic file that contains hair primitives, the abc file is selected in the V-Ray Proxy item.
Use "Render curves" on MODO's mesh item, if you want to use MODO hair/fur, it has to be baked as curves in a mesh. For this, use the Render -> Bake Geometry Cache command.

The latest open beta build (3.00.06) supports rendering hair in 3 ways
      - using a V-Ray Proxy with a .vrmesh or .abc(Alembic) file that contains hair primitives (I think this is how the hair was rendered in the demo video for V-Ray for MODO)
      - use the Render -> Bake Geometry Cache command from MODO to bake out the hairs from a Fur material to curves in a mesh, then enable the "Render curves" property of that mesh
      - directly create curves on a mesh item, and turn on its "Render curves" option

The next build (3.00.07) can use the MODO Render Cache API (available in MODO 801 SP4 and later, and MODO 901) to directly render the hairs from MODO's Fur material.
For the status of this, you can read this thread : http://forums.chaosgroup.com/showthr...nder-cache-API

There will be no V-Ray Fur in the initial version of V-Ray for MODO, as that will take too much time to implement properly (styling, guides, vertex maps, etc...).
