  • Does V-Ray interpret native Modo portals

Just wondering if Vray interprets native Modo portals in much the same manner that it interprets native Modo lights?

Should you use native Vray portals instead even when the source environment lighting is native to Modo.

    Thanks in advance.

We don't actually have any "native" lights i.e. lights that only work in V-Ray for MODO.
When you add the "V-Ray Light" package to a light, it just adds a bunch of options that are not present in MODO's light.
And V-Ray for MODO will actually automatically add a "V-Ray Light" tab to all lights in the scene each time you render.
I did this to simplify RT updates.

Or do you mean something else by native V-Ray/MODO portals ?

In Max there is an option for Skylight Portal (with a simple option) for concentrating environment lighting through window openings.

Modo also has an equivalent portal option (slightly different options) - http://help.thefoundry.co.uk/modo/90...ts/portal.html

I was wondering how Vray For Modo interprets Modo portals.

Does the question make more sense now?

Yes, when you have a "Portal" light in MODO, it gets translated to the equivalent V-Ray light (rectangle or mesh with an ellipse shape), that has "Skylight portal" enabled.
If the the "Environment Only" option is checked in MODO, then the created internal V-Ray light has "Simple Skylight portal" enabled as well.

Cool. That's how I've been using it. Just wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing an option somewhere.
