  • V-Ray Camera Clipping Plane

    Hi,

Is it possible to implement the clipping plane option in the camera effects tab ? Currently a V-Ray Clipper works but it's not as practical as this option.

It should be possible, using a V-Ray Clipper internally.
But it will be much harder to support the "Enable Surface Clipping" and "Matte Clipping" options from the MODO material, which work together with the camera clipping plane.
Do you usually use them ?

    Greetings,
    Vladimir Nedev

Well, I mainly use the camera clipping plane since it is very useful in interior scenes and generally in archviz jobs. If a trick is possible with the V-Ray Clipper it would be great and sufficient, at least for my needs.

      Thank you Vladimir.

        I've added this for tomorrow's nightly build ( 2015.11.18 ).
Like I mentioned the "Enable Surface Clipping" and "Matte Clipping" from MODO's material will not work.

In order to have the same results in MODO and V-Ray, you need to have some thickness to your geometry, here is an example:

Thanks Vladimir. I've just tested it and it works fine, but it lacks of the V-ray Clipper options, especially the Affect Light setting. Do you think it will be hard to implement these settings in the V-Ray Physical Cam package ?

Might be better to add them to the "V-Ray Camera" package I think, as I was going to move the "V-Ray Camera" tab to the "Camera effects" anyway, so it is one less tab on the right, which is already crowded.

I've added most of the V-Ray Clipper parameters to the V-Ray Camera package for tomorrow's nightly build ( 2016.06.08 ).
Note that you can't assign a material to the camera, like you can to a V-Ray Clipper object, but you can use the Object ID in combination with the V-Ray Multi Sub Texture to at least modify the texture on the clipped parts of the geometry.
