  • vray always on top of other windows

    Hi Vladimir

It seems like vray always jump to the top whenever I render. Is it possible to change this behavior? While it render I am not able to open other apps on the same screen.

Actually, it seems like it is the progress bar causing the issue not the render window

Only the progress bar will jump on top of the other MODO windows. This is on purpose, since otherwise it can easily get hidden behind something.
Initially it jumped on top of all operating system windows, but I fixed that a long time ago.

Which operating system are you using ?

I remember you fixed it, but it is back for me. I am on Windows 10 pro.

for me it works like this:
if the progress window is active and I open any other window it just jumps back to the bottom keeping vray/ modo in front.
if I click on the frame buffer while it renders I can open any other windows over modo

It is just annoying to go back to modo and click on the window then jump to another app.

Interesting, can you remember if this started happening when you switched to Windows 10 ?
I might need to upgrade my machine or find one that has Windows 10 in order to test this.

            Hi Vladimir

Have you maybe had a change to test this on a win 10 machine?
            Anybody else getting this?

We tested in on Windows 10 Pro just now, but couldn't reproduce it.
Can you give us some more info:

              - are you using Windows 10 in tablet mode ?
              - do you have dual monitors ?
              - are you using the Windows 10 start menu, or the fallback to Windows 8 (where the Start menu is taking the whole screen) ?
              - what's the other app that the VFB/Progress bar goes on top of ?

Ideally a short video clip showing the problem will help us a lot in reproducing it.

Vladimir...I am not sure what is going on. it was driving me crazy the whole weekend hence my post.... this morning I want to make a screen recording and it does not happen.
                No idea what changed.....
I only tried working in Photoshop while rendering. Maybe the latest Photoshop update fixed it?

Might have been a specific set of steps you were doing that day, and today you changed something little in what you are doing, so the bug no longer happens.
Next time you could reproduce it, please try to record a video, so we can reproduce it too, based on the video.

                      Hi Vladimir

The screen jumping to the front started again this evening . I did a screen recording and will mail you a link.
The only thing I did different was saving the pre-passes and loading them before I render. Not sure if that can have an influence but other than that I didn't do anything different.

Edit: I also deactivated everything except the AO render element

I actually did some more tests.... the prepasses made no difference. I also switched on all the render elements in the scene and that also didnt make a difference. (AO, samples, final output etc)
So I have NO idea what caused this.... hope the screen capture can help find it. If you need the scene please let me know.

PS. The job is confidential so I cant share the video or files here.

I've made some changes for the nightly build from 2016.02.17 . Hopefully they will resolve the issues you are having.
There is still some chance that our progress bar will steal the focus from another application, but it is very small.
Let me know if it still happens too often and is annoying.
In this case, I will just remove the code that raises our progress bar above other MODO windows, as I am just not able to do it reliably.
