  • New to V-Ray, licensing impossible! I need help please

    Hi there,

    I requested to join to the public beta of V-Ray for Modo. The installing was no problem, but the licensing is not possible and extreme complicated.

    I get always the error message: V-Ray could not initialize UI license, error code is: -200

    So I visited the website with the documentation and get 12(!) pages of the licensing process! This is not easy, this is not fast, this is impossible!

    The documentation says that I have to download and install a licensing server, but under download there is download for it.

    And now? How can I begin to test the beta of V-Ray?

    It seems that you were not given access rights to the License Server download.
    Please write an e-mail to support@chaosgroup.com with your chaosgroup.com username, and they will fix the problem.

    When you have the rights remember that the online license server that you need to download is under V-Ray License Server 4.0 Beta (x64).

    Sorry for the inconvenience and lost time. It must've been a mistake that you did not receive access rights to the license server download.
    The installation and activation of the license server is pretty simple actually. The help page contains use cases you probably won't need (offline activation, dongle, update from version 3.0) and a lot of screen-shots as well.

        I now installed the server, I have rebooted my computer, but it will not work. If I try to open http://localhost:30304 the browser can not find the server.

        The installation and activation of the license server is pretty simple actually.
        No, it’s not, the opposite is true! It is the most complicated activation I have ever seen in all the years I use computers, and I’m using computers since 1979! Other softwares has a serial number, a license file you can drag and drop onto the application, or you can type in your account and it is activating via internet. This is easy! Not the system of V-Ray.

          Maybe I should have clarified that it is simple, when it works the first time. When you run into problems, it is frustrating, but it is still in beta, so hopefully it will be improved.

          Do you happen to be on Mac OS X ? If so, try this : http://forums.chaosgroup.com/showthr...357#post675357

          If not, are you sure you installed the 4.0 version (it should say online in the title bar of the installation, and 4 in the file name of the installation) ?
          If you are sure, I don't know what the problem might be, you should contact support, they probably have a better understanding of the possible issues with the online license server.

            Yes, You are right, it’s beta.
            Now it runs. I had to rename the folder .ChaosGroup in the user folder and now it works.

              I had this exact same problem on my Mac. Deleting the .ChaosGroup folder solved the problem for me too.

                For what its worth its magical on windows 10 for activation.
