  • Black Matte keeping Shading properties

Greetings! I am trying to find a way to use the same Workflow I use in production but in Vray with Modo. I'd like to use something similar to this:

    https://support.solidangle.com/displ...G/Object+Matte

    or this:

    https://support.solidangle.com/display/AFMUG/Matte

I've looked for it but the naming might be different. Is it possible to do it with Vray? and if so, with Vray for Modo?

In addition, will we have an atmosphere render elements to get an independent AOV of Volumetrics?

I can't think of a direct way to enable this type of behavior.

The usual way to do something like this in V-Ray would be to use a multi-matte render element, I think.
It is not available in V-Ray for MODO yet, but you can instead use a masked "Alpha output" render element.
Basically an alpha element which is under the mask of the material you are trying to create a matte for.

There are also the V-Ray Object Properties (added to MODO's shader items), where you can create a "shadow catcher" type of material.

Yes, I will eventually add the atmosphere render element, sorry for not answering in the other thread.

No problem then, I can use a more "traditional" approach by creating different passes.
