  • displacement and geometry package

What is the best practice with displacement and adding geometry package?
If I have chair for instance and only the seat should have displacement, should I detach the poly's and have it as a separate item with a geometry package on?

If it is part of the chair the displacement don't render unless I remove the geometry package? Shouldn't it only look at the part of the model with the displacement map assigned to it?

Do you have 2d displacement enabled ? It has some limitations, and what you mention is one of them.

yes. I assume it will be best to just detach geometry

Yes, detach the geometry. 2d displacement can't work on objects that have multiple materials. It will either be applied to all faces in the mesh, or none of them, ignoring the material.
I should at least add a warning dialog about this at some point.
