  • V-Ray for MODO License not working

    Hi,

I have recently downloaded V-Ray for MODO 902 but the online license doesnt seem to work. It expires on 29/04/16. Does anyone know why this might be happening?

    Thanks

Since you can see the expiration date, I guess http://localhost:30304/#/online is running fine and you activated your machine successfully ?

Are you on Windows or Mac ?
Do you have the online license server on the same machine or another ?
Do you have other versions of V-Ray (Max, Maya( that are setup to use a dongle license server on the network ?

On Windows you can go to Start Menu -> Chaos Group -> V-Ray for MODO -> Licensing -> Change V-Ray License Settings and make sure that "localhost" is selected as one of the license servers,
if you have the online license server running on the same machine.

      Hi Vladimir,

I am running windows and dont have any other vray dongles licenses.

I noticed that the beta version was 3.0 but the license in 4.0 and i don't have the option to select 'localhost' from the startup menu

Have i downloaded the wrong license?

      Thanks,

      Rob Elston

The online license server is version 4.0, yes, its versioning is separate.
If you can open this page : http://localhost:30304/#/online you should have the online license server running correctly.

Did you activate the license for your machine ?
This page lists the step by step installation instructions:
        http://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/V...llationProcess
The final is step is to go here : http://localhost:30304/#/settings/activate and follow the instructions on that page.

i don't have the option to select 'localhost' from the startup menu
Once you click on Start Menu -> Chaos Group -> V-Ray for MODO -> Licensing -> Change V-Ray License Settings,
you will be presented with this dialog :

Name:	set_license.PNG
Views:	1
Size:	8.3 KB
ID:	860449
it should say localhost or 127.0.0.1 (which is the same).

Or you can run the V-Ray for MODO installation again and click on the "Customize" button. Although, by default it should point to your local machine.

        Greetings,

I'm having an issue with accessing http://localhost:30304/#/online. Installed vray for modo beta and licensing server 4.0. I've tried reinstalling several ways, including editing the licensing directory in the modo license settings. I'm on a pc so no .chaosgroup folder, and I don't have another version of vray running. I get an error code 200 when trying to use vray in modo.

          Anything else I can try?

You can check if the V-Ray Online License Service is running by going to My computer -> right click -> Manage -> Services and then look for the VRLService service and check its status.
You can manually start it by right clicking on it and selecting Start.
If there is no VRLService service, something went wrong during the installation. Maybe try running the license server installation again. Might be worth trying to run it as Administrator (right click on installation -> Run as Administrator).

You can also send an e-mail to support@chaosgroup.com . They have more experience with resolving these kind of issues. Maybe they can help more.

Turned on vrl service under the path you mentioned. It appeared to be off so that is at least a step in the right direction, however there seems to be no difference in accessing the localhost address.

I've sent an email to support, and will let you know what happens.
              Thanks for the help Vladimir

not to zombie this thread, but I'm on osX and haven't been able to get the localhost responding in my browser. various installations and can't get the license server to work. osx 10.11 actually, might this be breaking things?

it was [940182] So they said to delete the .ChaosGroup folder in my user directory. I just renamed it to .ChaosGroup_Backup and once i went to the localhost:30304 the expected interface opened and I was able to activate the license using my login! Looks like something weird happened in that directory, but it's working now and I'm rendering!

super cool! support also suggested restarting the license server by entering
                        launchctl unload -w /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.chaos_group.vrol.plist
                        Press Enter
In the terminal. but I didn't need to do that working for me. hope this might help someone else having a similar problem.

Which issue, you are not able to access http://localhost:30304/#/ ?
Are you sure you installed the online license server and not the old dongle license server ?
The version of the online license server is 4.1.0.
I don't think we are aware of any installation issues on Windows like the .ChaosGroup folder issue on Mac OS X.
