  • how to save Layered Exr in an animation

How can I save a layered EXR (single file EXR whit all channels) in Vray?
I see the option in the Render Window, but I don't know how to do that via an output for animation. I always get single files.

    Ok Standalone is the solution.

Yes, the "Render with Standalone" command can be used as a work-around until I get this in the normal V-Ray render command that renders within MODO.
"Render with Standalone" can also be used to render an animation with RT GPU CUDA, since I haven't made this possible from within MODO yet.

I am still having problems opening layered exr files in Photoshop. (I use the arion plugin).
I can open most files I save but every now and then I cannot, all rendered in modo/vray and saved the same way.

Can it be a render element or something? I found out this week it is certain scenes I render that will not work. I am sending you the vrimg file, would you mind having a look if it works or if anything is weird in it?

Sorry for not taking a better look last time you complained about this.

The problem is the long render element names. In your scene, it is "Illumination (Direct) Output (2)".
Older versions of the OpenEXR library allow up to 32 characters for a channel (and 2 of these are .R or .G or .B, so 30 in the MODO UI).
The Arion plug-in probably uses the older version of the OpenEXR library.
Other features that won't open are :
          - .exr with deep information
          - multi part .exr files (I don't know what that is).

So, basically you need to shorten the render element names to less than 30 characters.
If you are using the V-Ray form for creating render elements, you can switch to V-Ray names, which are shorter and also don't add "Output" at the end.

Thanks for taking a look Vladimir. It is actually an easy fix. I always use the vray form to create render elements. I will change it to show only vray names.

Note that just changing it to use V-Ray names won't change the names of existing render elements.
The name shown in the VFB and stored in .exr/.vrimg file is the name of the item in the Shader Tree.
This name is set when you create the render element, depending on the V-Ray or MODO names option.
