  • vray Blend Material Layer Order

I'm trying to use the Vray Blend Material and everything works if I am just combining two vray materials. I am not having much success when trying to use a vray materiel that has textures or files that are being fed into one of the materials that is connected to the Blend Material. Wondering what the render layer order(Groups, Shaders, whatever?) needs to be to get everything working correctly or if it just isn't working currently.

You have to construct your materials via schematic view if you want to blend textured materials. The same with 2sided material.

I run into the same thing with double sided material. Its bad that you can't simple place a texture above for color, then only thing possible is the translucent texture.

Okay, as long as it doesn't suffer from the same render penalty as modo does, it isn't that big of a deal. Can you do all the math operations in schematic? I assume the blend or 2sided material goes on top.

You can see what MODO Schematic nodes are supported here : http://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/V...DONodalShading

Here is an example of a 2-sided leaf material in the Schematic : http://forums.chaosgroup.com/showthr...772#post651772

For now, if you want to stick to the Shader Tree only, you could use multiple MODO Shader items to achieve the same effect as the V-Ray Blend Material.
This setup works with MODO's renderer as well.
It is explained here in the MODO forums, not sure if there is an actual mention of it in the MODO docs:

Thanks, after kubbek said that I needed to wire it in with the schematic I was able to get it working. I had been trying to group and nest different things with little luck. When you start having to do different coatings modo's shader tree can get a bit more confusing so happy to just wire a blend material in schematic.

Since I am in no rush but always curious about GPU is nodal GPU support something that is going to be worked on in the future?
