  • Vray Materials saving and transferring.

Currently I see only one way to get Materials from other Software to Modo by using VrScene export.
But there a cases where we just want Materials without mesh, for example if you have proxies in the other software and just want to get the materials.
3dsmax offer a way doing that by exporting a mat lib. I don't know from a special Vray material library format.
So I would frankly like to ask, if it is theoretical possible, without to much work or license problems to have an importer for that format in Modo?
The top reason for that are libraries that feature mostly Vray formats and with fbx you can't get that material to another software.

I completely agree with what Robert said!

It would also be awesome to be able to export a proxy from any package and have a checkbox for material export. So that the material for the proxy is saved in a seperate file in the same folder of the proxy. And have an option in the proxy to load the material from disk.

We often have arcviz scenes, where we have several camera angles on the same project and work with several people in several files on the same project. But we share elements between scenes with dMeshes if we render modo or proxies in vray. So currently if I change the materials of proxies(which are visible in several of our scenes) in one file, I have to manually adjust it in all files - that is a big pain.

    Cheers,
    Jonathan
