  • Volumetric material

Hello all! I'm new to the forum, just purchased a VRay|modo license.
I'm having a bad time trying to render a volumetric "gas" sphere, modulating the fog density with a fractal noise.
More or less like the user manual example images.

I tried with the atmosphere effect using the gizmo (and hiding the mesh).
In this case i can see the fog effect contained in the sphere but i'm not able in any way to modulate the density.

Tried also with the volumetric material but in this case i was not able to get anything but the initial sphere.

Sure i'm missing some fundamentals, where can i look for more information? The user guide is too concise for me.

    Thank you! Umberto

The most important thing is to have the procedural texture's locator set to Solid Projection Type.

For the volumetric material, you need a separate surface material that is at least partially transparent, so you can see the volume inside.

Also, make sure to have the step size set to 2-3 times lower than the fog distance, especially when using a density texture.

I am attaching 4 example scenes.

Got it! I was mainly fooled by the bercon noise low/high levels.
Thank you so much for the examples Vladimir! Now it's working.
