  • DR in modo

Hi very new to Vray but not to modo.
In our office we've setted up a small network for renderfing using modo renderer. But now i'm testing Vray. How can Vray be setted in order to use the slaves machines, and how the licensing should work. Do we need one license per machine? where can I find more info on how to set a DR using Vray for modo

    thank you

I've explained some details about DR in this post on The Foundry forums : http://community.thefoundry.co.uk/di...4169&p=1033989

In short, yes, you need a V-Ray 3.0 universal render node license for each DR slave.
You can see the prices of those bundled with V-Ray for MODO here : http://www.chaosgroup.com/en/2/v-ray-modo.html
Or sold separately here : http://www.chaosgroup.com/en/2/vray_...licensing.html

Then on each slave you must install V-Ray for MODO and run vray.exe (vray.bin) in server mode.
On Windows, you can do this from the Start menu entry for V-Ray for MODO, there is a Launch V-Ray Render Slave shortcut.
On Mac OS X, you have to open a terminal, go to where V-Ray for MODO is installed, then run ./vraysl/vray.bin -exe

Then enter the slave address here :

Is DR cross platform? Used Macs for years but moving to Windows now so I have a collection of Macs and Wintels in my render farm. Modo is able to work cross platform so they talk to each fine. Well, as fine as network rendering works with Modo, lol!

Is that the same for VRay? Do I need to get Bootcamp running on the Macs for VRay to use them as slaves?

      Thanks!

Yes, it should be fine. I use this setup all the time - I use my Mac dev machine and the Mac Pro builder as render slaves for my Windows workstation.

That is great to hear. Just a few more tests to run before I purchase. Thanks!
