  • Exporting .vrscene + .bat

I have to render around 20 different views so manually starting and saving would be a pain.
Since the "Render Passes" doesn't work yet in V-Ray for MODO I was looking for a workaround.

At the moment I'm using the "Render with Standalone"-Option with "delete .vrscene after rendering unchecked.
I then cancel the render, once it starts and i have a nice .vrscene-file as well as a .bat file with all the options included DR.
I then create these two files for all my passes and at the end i created a .bat file including all the .bat files saved before and let my computers do the rest. Works better than with Deadline, since I'm not rendering an animation and I'm using DR for these stills.

It would be nice if "Render with Standalone" would have some additional options like "just export" and a "export .bat" option as well as the possibility to give you .vrscene-file a name. At the moment you can only define the save location (browse-button would be nice) and it gives you scene-file some cryptical name.

I'm pretty sure there's a way to export just .vrscene files, but Vlado Nedev can give you more details.

      Best regards,

Of course there are other options f.ex. you can already use file -> export as -> .vrscene but I was asking for some more into deep option. I really like the additional output of the .bat file that includes already all the activated options like slaves for DR aso. without the need to assemble manually the string needed in your terminal window and it gives you the option easily batch-render dozens of .vrscene files.
This would also open the door for adding the missing "render-passes" option in V-Ray for MODO in a really powerful way: Every render-pass would be batch-exported as seperate .vrscene file and afterwards batch rendered. You can leave the rendering up to your slaves by not using your local machine for renderin and keep on working on local machine. Or you can even close MODO while batch-rendering, keeping more RAM for the rendering-process. Everything with the support of distributed rendering, something that not even MODO supports for it's own render-passes.

With the option "Don't delete .vrscene after rendering" and f.ex. "Don't overwrite existing .vrscene-files" you'd still have the scene files and after changing some rendersettings like resolution, sampler type or different render-outputs you could re-render all Passes without the need to re-export all .vrscene-files, since only the .bat would change.

I hope you could follow my explanations...in my head everything makes total sense

I'm already in contact with Vlado Nedev..or at least he knows already about this nice-to-have-option.

          I've added this option for tomorrow's nightly build ( 2016.11.14 ).

Oh great....was already looking forward to that feature. I'm a big fan of rendering with the standalone version...it's rock-solid, even on a smaller machine at home
