  • V-Ray clipper and replicators

V-Ray clipper now works well with replicators but I cannot choose a replicator as included/excluded object. It is just not displayed on the list. Could it be corrected? Now if I want to perform clipping on replicator only I have to create a group of everything else in the scen and use it as excluded object. Not very convenient although it works

    Cheers,
    Jakub

Just found out that this subject was discussed already in an earlier topic: http://forums.chaosgroup.com/showthr...hlight=clipper

It seems that this bug is not easy to solve but I just wanted to say it would be great if V-Ray clipper could include/exlude replicators...

Yes, but this would be awesome if at some point Vladimir could work it out.
Hope it will be possible at some point down the line.

      Cheers,
      Jonathan

        Hey people,

Thank you for the posts. I have a simple workflow for that case. Duplicate a "Replicator" -> Go to Item -> Replicator -> Freeze replicator. Next steps select all instances right click and from the pop-up menu choose change type to "Mesh". Select all meshes, right click and from the pop-up menu choose "Merge meshes". Go to V-Ray Clipper and add new mesh to the option "Clipper Mesh".

          Hi Boyan,

it would be great if it could be that easy but working with replicated grass that way is not an option I started to use that method for replicated grass clumps that are going through the kerbs.

          Cheers,
          Jakub

What Jakub said - we use replicators when we want to have tens of thousands, usually millions of instances. And to convert them into meshes simply is not an option at all - performace wise, file size wise etc.
This basically knocks out what is great about the replicators....

              Hey Jakub & Jonathan,

Appreciate your posts here. Yep, I agree with you but also trying to make some workaround. About the performance in a case that "converted mesh" has huge size and geometry impact over UI I suggesting to convert it to Vray proxy. Next, you can use with a V-Ray clipper.
