  • Modo Fresnel reflectance in Vray?

I'm slowly gaining ground on exploring Vray for Modo.

I'm wondering why Vray isn't producing proper edge reflectance for metals? I tried creating a native Vray material and found that it's also not doing this. Is there something special I'm not doing? This is a real-world physical effect and it imparts quite a bit of realism. If Vray doesn't do this I'm a little bit mind-boggled and it's pretty close to a deal breaker as far as purchasing Vray.

Here's an example from TheaRender. Modo, Maxwell Render, Arion Render and others do this physical property. Vray doesn't seem to do this as part of its material system. Is there a way to simulate it, perhaps with a modifying layer?

After doing some testing I found that I could generally replicate the effect by using two materials plugged into a Vray Blend Material function.

I'm still kind of shocked Vray doesn't do this natively (that I can see).

Normally people use a Falloff map in the reflection color of the material to achieve this effect in 3ds Max and Maya. There has not been a specific need to build this into the V-Ray material.

The orignal alSurface shader has this capability for its metallic reflection model and we will implement it into the V-Ray counterpart as well.

        Best regards,
