Python - check if Vray is installed

Is there a way in Modo (via Python) to check if Vray is installed, and if so, what version of Vray that is installed?

One way would be to check the kit version:

import lx
kitVer = lx.eval('kit.version vray ?')
print kitVer


If kitVer is None, then the kit is not installed, otherwise the kit version is returned
