  • V-Ray 3.5 ?

    Hello,

    I saw that V-Ray 3.5 is available in beta for 3ds Max users. I would like to know if there is any chance to get it on Modo in the nightlies or will it be available only on a stable release ?

    As far as I know its aimed to be integrated a bit later, but not much. There is still a lot to do for the developers.

                    The first nightly builds with the 3.5 V-Ray core are in the nightly build folder from today - 2017.02.24 .
                    They have some of the new features, like adaptive lights (enabled by default) and glossy fresnel (not enabled by default to preserve compatibility with older scenes, you need to do it manually).
                    Also all the improvements for RT GPU should be working (haven't explicitly tested them).

                      Please ignore the current builds, as they are using an incorrect license.
                      I will add a message here when new builds with the correct license are uploaded.

                        The fixed builds are uploaded. The filenames end in _27240. The Windows one is in the 2017.02.25 folder.

                          Thanks for the build Vladimir.

                          Here's a few issues I ran into while doing some quick testing:

                          1) Glossy fresnel doesnt work in RT GPU (unsure if this is a bug)
                          2) The copy to clipboard feature seems to be copying BGR instead of RGB. If I swap the red and blue channels in photoshop it looks correct
                          3) Getting random crashes double clicking images in history to load them into vfb
                          4) If I have denoising on I noticed the dropdown list in vfb swaps to "effectsResult"
                          5) The RGB buttons in the Levels color correction section have broken button images

                            When do you aim for public release? I ask because, if I know use it, I would tell the render farm to use a nightly build too. So I prefer to have a public update there.. Any idea?

                              It seems the forum got rolled back and lost the new post I made

                              I would like to vote for having glossy fresnel on by default. I understand this will change old scenes, but it's easy enough to reload them, select all materials and uncheck glossy fresnel.

                              On the other hand, if glossy fresnel is off by default, I need to make sure I enable it every time I add a new material to a new scene. This is a total pain.

                              Please enable glossy fresnel by default.
