  • Is bump possible per material in Blend Material?

    Hi

Following a tutorial for Vray in max where a metal is created with rust patches. (mastering Vray)
They use a blend material to mask where the rust is. Each material in the blend has its own different bump.

Is this possible in the Modo Vray?
I have made it work using a group mask in the shader tree with a bump texture in the shader tree also.
But wanted to check if it is possible in the Vray Blend Material, as it seems that should be more "correct"

    also
In the schematic I can see where you would add a normal map for each material, but not a bump map.
Are bumps always added in the shader tree not schematic?

    Thanks in advance
    Simon

I am sure I have read about this in the past but it was a long time before I bought my licence!

Yes, you can add bump maps that affect only a particular sub-material of the blend material in the Schematic. Actually, for sub-materials, the Schematic is the only way to do it for now, as described in the thread you linked.
There is a bump value channel for connecting the bump texture.
See here for more info and screen-shots of the setup : http://forums.chaosgroup.com/showthr...049#post649049

I think I need to get better at searching the forums!
I saw the Bump Value channel but for some reason thought it was jsut for the bump height.

Thanks again for the help and info

        Cheers

I took the name Bump Value from the name of the channel doing the same thing in the MODO material.
For the MODO material, you have to add that channel manually to the Schematic.

The bump height is called Bump Amplitude, again the V-Ray materials match the name of the channel in the MODO material.

Ah ok, my mistake, makes sense now thanks.

Really enjoying Vray in Modo by the way!

            thanks
