  • Mask of an image texture without a second pass?

Just wondering how to get the mask of an image texture (has it's own alpha) in Vray without creating another pass or effecting my shading.

In MODO I've just set the render output and the image (using alpha only) to Driver A to get the image's mask/alpha, but I can't seem to get it to work on Vray.

I have to add the ExtraTex render element that other V-Ray versions have.
Although, it is computed on all objects in the scene, so the texture will show up on everything.
Unless you use an exclude list which can be inconvenient to setup.

I guess, in your case, you are masking the render output i.e. you have it inside the group mask of the material ?

I've used it with materials before, but for this case I often just need a render output and the texture set to driver A. I think it should work if I place it just about anywhere in the tree as it's not connected to any materials or their properties.
