  • How do I get the mask/alpha of a texture in Vray without rendering a pass?

Just wondering if there is an easy way to get the mask/alpha of a texture in Vray on the initial pass that doesn't effect the actual render?

In MODO there are a few ways, like setting the image to alpha only, effect to driver A and then the render output in the same group to driver A as well. This doesn't effect the actual render at all, and doesn't even require a material.

I use this for silkscreens on devices, labels on bottles etc. to get masks of the textures.

What's the work flow in Vray?

Can you show me an example of how this looks likes, rendered in MODO ?

Hi Vladimir - here are some links to a video showing how I'm using driver A in modo to get the mask, and links to the scene file and graphic.
