  • Bitmap textures not showing on V-ray RT GPU

    Hi guys,

I just tried adding bitmaps to my materials but when I render with Vray RT GPU they're not showing up. They only show up in RT CPU. Same result occurs when using standalone/GPU.

    regards,
    Alvaro

Please OP move this to the "problems" forum.

In GPU mode, only the UV map projection type is supported for now. Most likely your textures are using Solid or Cubic, that's why they don't show up.

Thank you Vlad. Thanks for the help and patience I'm going to try it our right away.

          Hi Vlad,

I just tried unwrapping the model the proper way, using the UV projection tool, checking the proper axis of the islands and setting its projection type to "UV map", but it still doesn't work. It only renders fine in production renderer/vray RT cpu. Vray RT GPU only displays the color channel and not the bitmap, as in the screenshot posted above.

Please bear with my insistence in using the GPU, but I think GPUs are a less expensive way to upgrade a pc to add computational power to it. CPUs with more than 4 cores/8 threads (like the one I got now) are too expensive. I was looking forward to get an AMD Ryzen 7 1800X with 8 cores/16 threads to get a bit more CPU power for Vray. The processor itself is not that expensive, and now with Threadripper on the horizon its price is tending to go down, but such change also implies a change of motherboard and getting at least 32GB of ddr4 ram @3000 mhz minimum, ideally (for ryzen) @3200mhz plus a good cooling solution, preferably liquid, and all those extra components do sum up and make your pocket ache a bit. So, my dream come true, while saving for a more updated hardware configuration, would be the ability to use Vray on GPU with the same, or at least as many production rendering options available. Buying 2 gtx 1070/1080 with 8 gb of ram each would be a better investment to squeeze all their power out, and with Vray's speed on GPU it would be a delight to render with them.

As things are right now, I'm forced to end up using the production renderer to get an output image as it's supposed to come out at the cost of waiting long times for it.

          regards,
          Alvaro

Please send me the scene or attach it here, so I can check what's wrong.

                Thank you for the scene.
For the GPU renderer, you need to specify the name of the UV map, leaving it to "None" won't work right now.

I will see if I can fix this particular edge case.
Note that the GPU renderer supports up to 16 uniquely named UV maps across all meshes in the scene.
So please, don't use a different name for the UV maps on different objects. For example, use "Texture", "Texture2", "Texture3" on all meshes, instead of "couch", "front", "back", "ground", "roof" etc. since you can easily go above the limit this way.

Thank you Vlad! That was fast!
                  Testing out right now.

                  regards,
                  Alvaro

                  edit:

how did you enable the "set texture uv" option? This is what I'm getting (image)

                  thanks!

Modo 11.1 beta added "set texture UV" to the texture layers tab as a convenience. In older versions of modo, you need to click the "texture locator" tab > UV map
