  • V-ray Modo material presets?

    Hi guys,

Does V-ray for Modo come with a basic collection of material presets? (as in Vray for sketchup), or do Modo presets for glass/metal/plastic/etc get translated automatically?

    thanks!
    Windows 10 Pro, 2x GTX 1070, AMD Ryzen7 1800X, 32 GB DDR4 Ram, V-Ray Standalone/Blender, V-Ray 3 for Sketchup, V-Ray 3 for Modo

You can use the V-Ray for SketchUp collection with V-Ray for MODO ( I guess you have V-Ray 3.5 for SketchUp, which has a new collection of materials, but the V-Ray 2.x collection should work as well).
See attached image, it's the material type you need to create in order to reference .vrmat files.

Note that there might be issues with bump mapping being the incorrect scale.
I plan to convert the .vrmat collection to MODO material presets and fix the bump issues in the process.
This will also make the materials directly editable inside the MODO UI.

Modo presets for glass/metal/plastic/etc get translated automatically?
They will be converted automatically, albeit not perfectly.

Fantastic news! Looking forward to it.
Thanks for the sketchup tip, I'm going to run some tests.

I just tried it out and it works, as you said, not at a 100% compatibility, and on GPU it's a tad worse, but it sure is nice to have the option of using vrmats. Having them translated from Chaosgroup's hands directly and tailored for Modo would be great.

        Thank you!

PS. I also tried loading vrmats as nodes in blender and it works great! (standalone shows the same CPU/GPU behavior/errors)
