If you want to load an image back into the VFB, it's best to have that image saved as .vrimg.

Otherwise, you can save 16-bit PNG or TIFF, by specifying the output image in the Final Color Output of the Modo scene, or by choosing Choose output image when running one of the Render with V-Ray ... commands.
Saving 16-bit PNG or TIFF from the VFB's own save button is not possible at the moment.

You could also use REBUS , but you would have to export the MODO scene to a .vrscene file and send that and use their support for V-Ray Standalone rendering.

Yes, this is how we render it.

Yes through vrscene export, which is a pain-in-the-you know... Problem is that vrscene files on animation are more less alembic files if I remember correctly. That means every deformation is stored per frame. Which produce really big files. I ended up at 3 GB files, which is kind of hard if you have to upload 20 scenes in just a few hours...

Also on export all Modo SubD mesh is meshed. A workaround here to save file space is to use V-Rays SubD format, but thats also not a prefect solution, because V-Ray dynamic SubD don't support weight maps, and V-Rays Static SubD has problems dealing with more then 4 vertex per polygons + weight map.. so test that out first.
And as said before turn the animation option on replicators off, that saves a lot space.

Sorry, i was pretty busy. So, rendering via vrscene file works, BUT validating the file takes longer than it takes to render the same file on my own computer. Since i render only stills turning the animation for replicators off doesn't help at all; and my vrscene files are roughly 500 MB big; and no SubD's.

Soo, what about Vray Cloud ?

              Hi Ingoerik,

I am also a brand newbie. I just tried out the GarageFarm integration to modo. It is pretty slick. You have a menu in modo and you can just choose "Beam it Up VRAY" and your project loads up with no additional steps to take inside modo. Then you just go the web interface and set your priorities and frames, etc and your off and running. Results came back as expected on both of my initial tests. There system renders in horizontal strips. Each strip represents a dedicated system on their end that renders the region and all the regions are merged at the end. In my tests the final image looked fine, but I did notice one Render Element that had an obvious strip that was lighter than the rest of the image. So, something funky was happening on one of the render nodes. But, I am still taking baby steps here and that is something I will have to keep in the back of my mind. Anyway, they give you $25 of credit s to try it out. They were very responsive on chat when I had questions (within seconds!) And the interface was very easy to understand. Its definitely worth a try. I used them on a prioject back in 2011 and they were very helpful and affordable on that job too.

Hi Daniel, thanks for the info, much appreciated. Also good to see that you took over the forum and ask a lot of questions i am also interested in. I am still pretty busy but i hope i can do more testing of VRay in summer when most of my clients are on holiday.

Hmm, the problem with the stripes sounds familiar to the problem Rebus has, just that they use squares to render on each system.
