I don't find the Vray nodes hard to use in schematic. They're well labeled etc. I find it actually harder to use the MODO schematic shaders, not just because of how they've set them up, but also because they are riddled with bugs and gotchas.
For me though it depends on the scene. If I have a lot of fairly simple shaders, then the shadetree is easier to manage.
I wish there was a more automatic/easier way to generate workspaces or assemblies based on base material names or something for instance. While it's powerful to be able to have all your nodes swimming in the same sea when you want, for scene organizing it becomes a PITA to work with the current schematic once you get a bunch of shaders. In XSI, each material by default lived in it's own work space- it's the opposite in MODO. So we're forced to setup a new work space for each material or group them etc.
In XSI's explorer you could also select the material and have the node view of the material pop up. AFAIK, there is no = in modo for this work flow that is so well integrated. A work around is to use the group view to select work spaces in MODO, but there currently is no search for that group or sorting. So once you get more than 10 materials and account for all the other groups you might have in a scene you're SOL. If "group groups" could be seen in the item list this wouldn't be an issue.
Anway- the only issues with using Vray in schematic are all almost entirely MODO's problem, not Chaos Groups- that was my main point. Even with all of MODO's schematic shading ills in terms of work flow, I'm more than happy to have the Vray nodes to work with.
