Dear All,
Recently I've decided to make the switch from using Modo's native renderer to using Vray with Modo. After testing the demo I?m eager to buy a vray licence to use with my machines.
My current set up is that I use one machine as my main workstation (4930k) and then a second desktop with 2 xeon processors for final rendering. I do all of the work and small render tests on the main 4930k, and then larger tests and final rendering I do on my xeon machine by closing my scene on my main workstation and opening it on the xeon desktop and hitting render.
I just want to clarify what licenses I would need to buy to continue this workflow, whether I only need the workstation licence, or do I need the workstation licence and one of the render node licenses. As you can see in the screenshot, it seems that the workstation licence includes a render node licence. Did I understand this correctly? Are both the workstation licence and render node licence floating licences?
Also, I remember reading it's possible to enable some kind of "render on slaves only" option that will allow me to send the scene to my xeon machine, by just pressing a button on my main workstation. While it is rendering on the slaves only, can I continue working on the scene? Or does it become locked? I suppose this way my xeon machine could just be kept as a slave, and I wouldn't need to open up the file on it anymore.
I hope I've explained this clearly. I just want to make sure that I don't buy more than I need for my two-computer setup.
Thanks!
ps. I'm also curious about vray for Blender, as I could maybe see myself starting to use it after a year or so. As I understand it, vray for blender just uses the standalone. Does purchasing vray for modo give me the standalone application as well? Or does it come just with the render node licence purchase?
