  • How to use a texture or noise to mask another texture or noise - V-Ray for Modo

    Hello all,

First time posting so please be patience if I do something I should't.

I haven't found an answer for this.

I basically want to use a V-Ray Bercon Noise as a mask for another V-Ray Bercon Noise.
The same result you get using what Modo calls Stencil, if I'm not mistaken.

Attached there is an image (3DS Max) and what I need is to achieve what the button that reads MASK does.

I hope that this makes sense.

    Thank you

Set the mask Bercon map to layer mask, like you do with Modo native renderer.
Also using schematic you can do this in many ways. the native Modo blend node, Vray layered texture, Vray mix can all do this
Let me know if you need example scenes for this.

Just drag and drop the layer that is to be a mask on top of the layer you want to mask.
Or what Muhammed said, set its effect to Layer Mask and make sure the mask layer is directly below the layer it's masking.
Stencil does something else, it's 0-1 opacity of the whole material.

        Hi,

        Thank you both.

        WITH LAYER MASK WORKS:
I couldn't make it work with Muhammed's post only.
I wasn't placing the elements in right order in the shader tree.
Thanks for the post Vladimir, it helped to add that extra bit.

Thanks once again for your help guys.
