  • Need help with light setup?

    Hi all,

Client has asked for a render, and has provided a reference (below).
It looks a little 'cheated', like the metals seems to be catching light from difference sources?

The main surface is fine in my build, but the metals (below) seem to have a gradient in this reference.
Is it possible to setup lights that only apply to certain materials for example?

Linking lights and materials is not possible. But you can use light linking on the light items to restrict them to illuminate only specified mesh items.

If you want to limit only reflections, it can be done on a per-material or per-item basis. It is done through the V-Ray Object Properties which are a package on Shader items.
This Shader item could be added directly to the mesh item (Item Shader) or in the Shader Tree.

      Thanks Vladimir,

      That works well.
Can I restrict an environment/hdri to specific groups? Need to spike the metal reflection, but would prefer not to fire this at the rest of the model.

      Best,

      Nick

You can turn off the environment (and preferably the Environment Importance Sampling in the V-Ray GI tab on the Render item), and use your HDRI on a dome light.
You can then link the dome light like the other lights.
