  • Mac / Windows Hybrid Network Rendering

I have a new PC (AMD Threadripper w/ GTX 1080ti w/ Windows 10) but, I am fairly new with Windows. I also have a 2013 MacPro cylinder with OSX High Sierra. I am trying to get both machines set up so that I can run Modo from the Mac and be able to 1) send full frame renders off to the Windows machine and run the Standalone renderer, and 2) have the windows machine be able to contribute to the RT renders that are run on the mac. I have both machines connected via 1 GB ethernet. I shared a folder on the PC and I enabled Windows sharing not he mac. However, I dont see he PC showing up as "shared device" in my finder. And I dont see it in Modo's Network viewer.

Is there a video or document available that walks someone through setting the two machines up to see each other? Thank you.

    That's not a V-Ray specific task.
It's best if you setup both machines to use static IP addresses for your local network.
You can search online how you can do this.

After that, it's a simple matter of entering the static IP address of the Windows machine in the V-Ray Preferences in Modo on the macOS machine.

      Hi Vlad,

Thanks for the response. I found a short tutorial on how to connect the computers. I needed to create a new user account on the PC for the incoming mac connection. VRay Distributed Rendering just worked perfectly, once I had an established network. For about 10 years I have struggled with getting Modo's network rendering to work reliably, if at all. And with a quick try, it STILL doesn't seem to work! I am so happy I have moved on to VRay! No turning back for me.

I have this working great if I am running VRay for modo on the Mac and using the PC with Standalone. But I am now trying to get the reverse scenario working. Running modo not he PC and using he Mac as a slave. Unfortunately, I cant seem to find any documentation / instructions on how to get the standalone render node launched and ready to receive from the PC. I know that I can currently launch the VDenoiser from Terminal. But how do I launch the render slave? THX.

          Howdy, Dan,

This might be helpful for you. https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...+Render+Server

You can make the alias for that, too.

          Cheers,
