  • Problems with a spotlight

    Hi all,

I have a problem with a spotlight when rendering with v-ray. The square image shows a spotlight reflection with a dark edge on a surface.
The square image shows that as well (indicated by green circles), but also the jagged shadow edge (orange squares).

All these problems disappear when I turn off my spotlight, but I need that spotlight to have the machine/product look good.

How can I remove those light problems?

    Hey,

Thank you for the feedback. Can you share with me the material setup, for metal parts and what do you have as texture to sport light? Check the Highlight option for materials. Check the AA filter type, too.

    Cheers,

      Hi Boyan, of course.

My spotlight doesn't have a texture.

Here the material setup for the "button" in the square image

The jagged edges are normal and correct, this is what happens when neighboring pixels have vastly different intensity.
The solution is to enable the lens effects to smooth them out, like what would happen in real life.

There is also the "hacky"and physically incorrect solution, where you tell V-Ray to clamp each individual sample and use the clamped value to calculate the final pixel value.
But with this solution you will lose some of the realism in the image, so it's not recommended. There are some hidden channels to enable it.

As for the dark circles, can you strip down the scene to include only some of the bolts and the spot light, so the issue is still there and then attach it here or send it to me or Boyan ?

Fixed it with changing the spotlight settings:
