  • vrscene reference and materials

    Hi there.
I run into a problem here. When I import a vrscene I normally get all materials.
When I however use the scene reference item, all objects are white. No materials, no textures.
I thought by importing the scene I have at least the same materials and can manipulate them. But that didn't work.
Also often the textures are not loaded, and there seem no way to relink them.
By any means, is there a way to analyze a vrscene and see the material names and texture paths?

    Hey, Robert,

Yes, this is how it works. It is normal behavior.

    Cheers,

When I however use the scene reference item, all objects are white. No materials, no textures.
This can happen if you check Override material in the .vrscene reference item.
In this case, you can apply a single material on all objects in the referenced .vrscene by creating an item mask for the .vrscene reference item.
It's not possible to apply materials to individual items within the .vrscene.

Edit: If Override material is not checked, the render should show the materials as they were when the .vrscene was created.
The materials should actually work better compared to using the .vrscene import function, as the import can't translate some textures.

Also often the textures are not loaded, and there seem no way to relink them.
The only way to fix the texture paths is to use the VRAY_ASSETS_PATH envrionment variable.

VRAY_ASSETS_PATH – Specifies a list of paths where V-Ray will look for textures, GI cache files, etc. Initially, V-Ray attempts to look for an asset in the path specified in the scene. If this fails, V-Ray will go through the paths in the VRAY_ASSETS_PATH variable and try to find a file with the same name. On Windows, paths are separated with a semicolon ';' while on Linux and Mac OS X - either a colon ':' or semicolon ';' can be used to separate paths.
