  • Render passes naming convention - difference between GUI and standalone

I think there's a bug with render passes and the naming convention. If I render a normal animation (no render pass group), the naming is correct, i.e shot01_v001.0001.exr. If I render an animation with a specified render pass group I get an incorrect naming when using GUI, shot01_v001.pass010001.exr (a dot is missing). If I use standalone, I get the correct naming convention, shot01_v001.pass01.0001.exr. Any chance this could be fixed in a nightly? It seems like a minor issue, but it actually is a bit of a pain in a pipeline as renders use a different naming convention.

Can you give me a scene for this. I am not able to reproduce it with a recent nightly on a simple scene.
    There must be something specific.
Which of the EXR formats are you saving to ?

      Hey, Simon,

Thx for the feedback. Indeed there is a difference between standalone and GUI exporters. I will log in to our system, meanwhile, I will keep you posted for a workaround by using the command line and animation if possible.

Thanks for taking a look Vladimir. Attached is a simple scene.

        - Vray/Render animation
        - Set the pass group to "colors"
        - Set frame range to 1, 1.
        - Choose output image and save it as shot01_v001 and as a 16-bit layered exr (all elements in same file)

See that result is named: shot01_v001.green0001.exr

Thanks, I can reproduce it now. It seems the key part is to use the "all elements in same file" EXR format, otherwise it works as expected.

This should be fixed for tomorrow's nightly build ( the one from 2020.04.17 ).
It happened even when rendering without render pass groups, you just have to save to multi-channel EXR.

Thanks a lot Vladimir, that's great!

Ah yes I see now that it's the same for non render passes as well. I use a script for launching renders and I see that I had added an extra dot after the filename to work around that.
