  • V-Ray and Group Visibility

    Hi!

Looks like V-Ray for MODO doesn't take group visibility and render state into account. This means, if I put items in a group and set their render state to off, they still get rendered.

    Cheers

Yes, I haven't implemented this yet. When I looked into it, I was wondering what happens when you have the same item in multiple groups and they have conflicting renderable states.
For example one group is set to render "off" and the other is set to render "on". Do you know ? What behavior do you expect in this case ?

Interesting question. Haven't tried that before.
In a few tests it looks like the hidden state wins over the render state. I think this is the same as in Softimage.

BTW when you're adding support for group render states, will this mean that objects hidden with the "H" key (which temporarily hides objects and makes the "eye icon" to grey) aren't rendered as well?
This would make V-Ray for MODO more consistent with the MODO renderer and is very useful during shading / lighting heavier scenes.

      Cheers

The "H" key does something completely different and I have no idea how to get that state from the API. I don't think this state is even saved in the "lxo" scene.
I've asked the Foundry but no answer yet.
A lot of people asked for that and so it seems it is used a lot, but I can't do anything for now unfortunately.

OK. I think it really doesn't get saved with the lxo file meaning it doesn't survive a reload, which is a *great* thing!
How often in did I hide objects during modeling or shading and forgot to turn them back on again. Can be quite surprising if you check your overnight farmjob and something looks weird

          Cheers
