  • Issue: "Start RT GPU CUDA" ist crashing Modo

    Hi,

If I click on Start RT GPU CUDA Modo is crashing always.

    I’m using:
    iMac 27" i7 (late 2012)
    32 GByte RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048 MB
    CUDA Driver Version: 7.5.22
    GPU Driver Version: 10.8.14 310.42.15f01
    Mac OS X: 10.11.3 Beta (15D13b).

Is it a bug? And is it possible go get some information about the crash (is there log file or anything)?

RT GPU CUDA isn't working on Mac OS X in our official 3.01.01 build.

The latest nightly builds have this fixed.
You can request access to those by sending an e-mail to support[at]chaosgroup[dot]com

The 3.01.01 build doesn't crash over here (on an iMac as well, but on Mac OS X 10.11.2 ), so I would suggest updating your GPU drivers as well.
GPU Driver Version: 10.8.14 310.42.15f01 seems quite old, the latest starts with 346 or something.

You can get information about what V-Ray is doing in MODO's Event Log, but of course it is not possible to see it after a crash.
I need to add an option to have the messages saved somewhere on disk.

I have installed the drivers some weeks ago, and some days ago I was updating the drivers. Actual the drivers say the there is no newer software.

Where can I get newer drivers from?

Hm, yes, the CUDA driver seems to be the latest version.
The GPU driver might not be the latest though, not sure if it matters for a CUDA application, but it might.
Can you try updating the GPU driver ? Trying to find the latest version from nvidia.com is a bit confusing, since it doesn't list Mac OS X as an operating system, when the GeForce 600M series is selected.

        Google finds this : http://www.nvidia.com/download/drive...px/92173/en-us
but the bottom of that page says "BETA support is for iMac 14,2 / 14,3 (2013), iMac 13,1 / 13,2 (2012) and MacBook Pro 11,3 (2013), MacBook Pro 10,1 (2012), and MacBook Pro 9,1 (2012) users.", which doesn't sound right.

Hmm, this driver can not be installed:

Mac OS X version is not compatible
Mac OS X version 10.11.3 (15D13b) is not supported with this package. Please see NVIDIA’s website for further driver information.

Ok, maybe it is best to ask support for nightly build access, and then try this build : https://nightlies.chaosgroup.com/mai...tlies/20160108
