  • UI License error

I've installed the Vray modo plugin. Whenever I try to start RT or try to render something I get this error:
V-Ray could not initialize UI license, error code is: -200

We have our license server on a local network machine which is a PC. I'm trying to use Vray on a Mac. Vray runs fine on the PCs with 3ds Max.

Do you have the required V-Ray for MODO licenses on that server ?
    You need:
    V-Ray Render Node 3.0 Beta
    V-Ray 3.0 for Modo Beta

You can use the online license server, installed only on your machine, as a secondary license server.
    See instructions here:
    http://forums.chaosgroup.com/showthr...371#post674371

If you registered for the V-Ray for MODO beta, you should get V-Ray for MODO licenses on your account here:
    http://my.chaosgroup.com/
These can be used with the online license server.

Also might be a firewall issue.

I have recently moved and didn't have internet at the new premises.....unfortunately I were not able to use vray at all as the license could not update.
Our internet is fairly unstable anyway...I am really worried that I will be without internet and not able to complete a deadline as I cant use vray.

Is there any way the license server can cache the license to the pc automatically and just renew the lease every now and then? That way the license will stay active even without internet.

Yes, that's the borrow license feature of the online license server. See here http://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/V...orOfflineUsage

My bad... I read it (half) as I though it will always be returned after 2 weeks.... I just noticed you can "keep" the license.

Ah, then it is probably the bug mentioned here : http://forums.chaosgroup.com/showthr...357#post675357

I deleted the .ChaosGroup folder and am still getting the error.
I just went through licensing problems with The Foundry and am currently having licensing issues with Photoshop. I've grown tired of dealing with licensing problems.
I'll continue to use modo's internal renderer. Thanks for trying to help.

Sorry to hear that, licensing can indeed be frustrating, and our online license server is still in beta, hopefully it will get improved further.

In case you decide to try again, if "localhost:30304" is still not accessible, try re-installing the online license server.
In case you are getting the "V-Ray could not initialize UI license", you might need to point V-Ray for MODO to use "localhost" as the license server during the V-Ray for MODO installation, or set "localhost" as an alternate license server.

Also, make sure to use V-Ray License Server 4.0 Beta (x64) from here : http://www.chaosgroup.com/en/2/downl...license-server
That's the online license server, versions starting with 3 are the old dongle server.

Sadly, it's a PC world. I ran the install on my PC and it works fine, so the problem has something to do with the integration with OSX.

Having to delete the .ChaosGroup folder is Mac OS X specific, and it is an issue that a lot of beta testers have run into (including me).
                      Usually this fixes the problem.
It will be very helpful if you help us find what the issue is in your case.
