  • Sss2

    Hi!
Not necessarily a problem, but I am hoping to get an example .lxo file showing the ideal implementation of fast SSS2 with a diffuse map. I'm making an SSS2 skin material and could use expert pointers on the material layers and makeup with vray.

    Thanks,
    Nick

I'm able to get the SSS2 shader working with all map types except diffuse amount/diffuse color. Could someone please verify if this is a bug or not? Thanks!

Each material has its own set of material effects, although in some cases material effects are aliased ( for example V-Ray for MODO considers "Diffuse color" and "vmtl Diffuse color" to be the same effect).
So for the V-Ray Fast SSS2 material, there is "vsss2 Diffuse color" and "vsss2 Diffuse amount". I should alias them to "Diffuse color" and "Diffuse amount" respectively, but for now, you should use the "vsss2" version.

If that doesn't help, please attach or send me a scene.

Thanks! I was using the SSS2 map types, but no matter how I layered them in, I was unable to get them working. I only get the SSS2 built-in color working. I'll make a simple file to upload.

By default the "diffuse amount" for the V-Ray Fast SSS 2 material is 0, so you have to set it higher or the diffuse map is ignored.
Also, the "overall color" is a filter for the "diffuse color" as well, so in your sample scene, it changes the diffuse map a lot.
Change the "overall color" to white and you will see your diffuse map better.

Here is what I could find on youtube for the SSS2 material : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nQM8fIGXaw

We have a 3d and training department that organize various on-site training events, certifications and webinars for specific V-Ray features.
I am pretty sure this guy http://community.thefoundry.co.uk/di...739&show=v-ray was done based on one of their trainings.

I will ask them for more information.

Some additional information about on-site training : you can send an e-mail to trainings@chaosgroup.com with your location, and they will refer you to the nearest Authorized Training Center, if one is available, in case you are interested in such a thing.

Our youtube channel has a bunch of video tutorials, the V-Ray for MODO ones don't have a specific SSS2 tutorial, but you will probably be able to follow tutorials for other V-Ray integrations, the parameters are very similar.
