  • Problem with deformers

Hi, I have a few problems rendering a scene with deformers.
First of instance deformation seem not to be supported. Just to let you know, but rather small problem.
Next I have particles on a deformed mesh, in some frames Vray renders them, in some not.
And last but least I have a gradient based on world axis that don't work with Vray. But thats probably also not supported.

Many thanks for making particles and replicators work in Vray.. thats so much faster then Modo. Modo needs 2 min. to prepare the scene while Vray does that in seconds.
I only hope some day we can see MultiScatter for Modo Vray.

Yes, not sure if it can be done (maybe only through the new Render Cache API).
But in any case, applying a deformation on the instance only, will deinstance it, so it won't be efficient.

Can you give me an example scene of this actually ? I don't know how to make a deformer affect only the intance, but not the original mesh. I just tried without success.

Next I have particles on a deformed mesh, in some frames Vray renders them, in some not.
Can you give me a scene for this as well ?

You can see the supported gradient inputs here : http://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/V...y-MODOTextures
If you are using one of them and it doesn't work, please give me a scene.

How to send you the scene in a non-public way?

You can upload it to dropbox or something similar and send me the link to vladimir.nedev [at] chaosgroup [dot] com

          Hi,

I was finally able to take a look at your scene, sorry for taking so long.
          I have some questions.

          1. Are you using MODO 801 SP4, SP5 or SP6 (not sure if this one was released) ?
I can reproduce the disappearing geometry bug in 801 SP5, but not in SP3 or MODO 902.
To me it looks like the bug described in this thread : http://forums.chaosgroup.com/showthr...853#post657853
I've listed the workarounds in that post, but it is a MODO bug specific to 801 SP4 and SP5, so there is nothing I can do.
Note that RT no longer exports hidden meshes like I mention in the linked post, but there might be something more complicated going on.

          2. Have you tried rendering the scene with V-Ray in MODO 902, 10.0 or 10.1 ?
For me, MODO crashes when V-Ray for MODO tries to add its light settings package to the cylinder lights. This works in MODO 801 though.
It seems there is something strange going on in the scene.
The list of lights in the shader tree has no lights, but the scene is supposed to have 52 cylinder lights.
After some resaving, this crash stopped happening for me. You might have to delete the lights in 801, save the scene and recreate them in 902.

          3. Can you tell me which shader uses a gradient based on world axis ? There are a lot of shaders in the scene.

          Greetings,

            Hi, yeah its 801.

            1. Not sure I tried higher version with Vray. But it renders well in Modo 10.x with Modo render.
            2. The cylindric lights? Wow.. don't see them anywhere. That maybe a bug in Modo. Sure it could have been in the scene long time ago
            3. The gradient is in the GRAVEL shader.

This is fixed for today's nightly build ( 2016.07.29 ).
Note that it won't work on render curves, and also enabling "allow deformations" is not updated in RT.
