  • Submitting keyed resolution in negative Frame ranged does not work

    Good Morning Guys,

I found a bug with both "Render with VRay" and "Render with Vray Standalone" concerning keyed resolution values in negative frame ranges.

    Very easy steps:
    1 Make a new scene
2 Key resolution at Frame 0 to the standart 1280v720 in the Modo render properties, Frame, Frame Width and Height
    3 Go to frame -1
    4 Key any other resolution
5 Go to the Vray toolbox and try either render with Vray Standalone or Vray

The result be an image rendered at 1280x720 pixels (the Frame 0 value) and not the resolution set at Frame -1

Ok, cool, my first bug report in VRay.

    Cheers,
    Jonathan

This should be fixed for tomorrow's nightly build ( 2016.07.26 ).
The fix affects all non-animatable parameters in V-Ray - render resolution, texture layer visibility, motion blur on/off, etc.
It will work only when rendering single frames.
V-Ray will take the value of these parameters at the currently selected frame, instead of frame 0, like it did before the fix.

Thank you so much for the quick fix Vladimir! That is awesome.
      Downloading now.

Is there a way that we can get this working, down the line, on animated sequences as well? I guess for that a change to the VRay core would be required?

      Cheers,
      Jonathan

I don't think I will do changes to the V-Ray core for this, as this could be dangerous.
Like we discussed in the Skype group, I will let the user switch to rendering the animation, as many sequences with 1 frame in each.
I will try to auto-detect animation on non-animatable parameters, so the switch can be automatic.

That sounds like a feature that solves some of my problems with animating physical camera parameters and also switching environments in different frames. I use animation as batch render and am facing many problems that are probably caused by modo bugs and not v-rays. Sending each frame to render as separate animation should solve this problems.

Great news, waiting for this feature!

          All the best,
          Jakub

What do you mean by "batch render", rendering with V-Ray Standalone ?

How are you switching the environments ? By animating their visibility ? I don't think that's a MODO bug, it's just a channel that we don't support animating.
So it will be in the list of channels that are checked when deciding to switch to 1-frame sequences.

I mean rendering with standalone some frames with different cameras and lighting.

There is probably a bug in modo when you try to animate visibility of an environment material/hdri map. As to animating visibility of a whole environment that could be just V-Ray that doesn't support that. Anyway I haven't find a way to switch environments during animation and I hope your solution with one-frame sequences will do the job.

              Thanks,
              Jakub

In V-Ray, you can animate the opacity of the environment texture to 0/100%.
There is an optimization in the code for 0/100% opacity, so the extra textures won't even be loaded when rendering the frames they are not being used in.

I don't think I've made changes to this since a long time (2 years). Maybe there was something specific to how you used it.

Yes it could be. I also could have lost faith looking for a solution a I had a feeling it wouldn't work Nevertheles I am happy it is working

                      Thanks,
