Error: Segmentation fault:11

What does this error mean? (Segmentation fault: 11)
I have a few pc's and one mac in a renderfarm...the pc's never get this error but every now and then I get this error on the mac.
After this error the only way I can get the server to render again is to restart it. (Restarting only vray server does not work)

I run El Capitan (10.11.5) on the mac.

It means that the application crashed.
The way memory management works on Mac OS X / Linux makes it more susceptible to crashes due to memory management bugs in the program.
Basically Windows hides the problem, although it's probably there too.

It seems the crash occurred after a lot of RT usage ? Is that correct ?

I am not sure.... when I start a full res render I look for the names on the buckets to make sure all servers are rendering..then I pick up it crashed out. I think you are right though, I use a LOT of RT before the bucket render.

On this, we really need a note on the screen with RT and bucket render just telling us how many slaves are connected. the more DR machines are connected the harder it is to make sure none have crashed. PLEASE

Are you using V-Ray for MODO at all ? You should be using the V-Ray Standalone that comes with V-Ray for MODO, there will be problems with the one that comes with V-Ray for Maya.

Are you using RT + DR , like BVA above ?

Segmentation fault means a crash, so it could be anything.

Are you using V-Ray for MODO at all ? You should be using the V-Ray Standalone that comes with V-Ray for MODO, there will be problems with the one that comes with V-Ray for Maya.

Unlikely, the machine has 60 GB RAM. Also I had noticed that i moved the file libvray_GeomMcdVRGeom.so the render completed with warnings.

I have kept an eye on this today and it happens after RT. It never crashed in earlier versions when we were still in Beta... I am on one of the nighties, I am not sure if something changed recently

When a crash like this happens, can you open Console.app from /Applications/Utilities, then go to ~Library/Logs -> Diagnostic Reports.
Then find the .crash file corresponding to vray.bin and the current date. Then you can right click on it to reveal it in Finder.
Or you can directly go to the file in Finder, it is under your home directory in Library/Logs/Diagnostic Reports.
After that send it to me.
