Any chance "Deep EXR" was checked in the original save that was over 1gb? Saving as Deep EXr will give you an EXR with all elements in the file size range that you are showing in your screenshot.

We had a discussion yesterday on the skype group...it seems like somehow it changes from 16 bit to 32 bit, but I honestly have no idea how.
I always use the button on the VFB to save once a render is completed and there are no options to select 16 or 32bit files.

Vladimir said he logged it, hopefully we will have it shortly

Its also strange that you can't choose if you want EXR 32bit or 16bit.. Its kind of old style.
What we more and more urgent need is a way to judge what outputs should be saved when using the Denoiser or LightFx. They tend to add a lot channels you might not want.
Also I hope we get an option save mask as B/W channels instead of RGB.
