  • VRay Clipper does not work on Replicators when isolated clipping is desired

    Hi Guys,

    I am replicating a roof and want to clip it at the ends. It works great with the VRay clipper - but only if I clip the entire scene. I can not clip only the replicators - with a normal geometry it works, but with replicators it does not work.
    Have a look at the attached image, also attaching the scene. Is this a bug?

    It is really important to our workflow - Would love for this to work, or someone to suggest a workaround.

    Yes, it is a bug, but it might be hard to fix.
    Basically, the Replicator won't work with include/exclude lists of any type.

    You could model the Clip_Roof_1 mesh to include the parts where clipping is desired, and then use the Substraction(scene-mesh) mode of the V-Ray clipper.
    In this case you won't have to use the include/exclude lists.

      Thanks for your quick revert.

      Your solution would still clip everything in the scene, right? We have rafters directly under the Rooftiles, and i couldn't modle the clipper so tight...so this solution does not help, or did I misunderstand?

      In that case the best solution would be to turn to proxie and use the clipper on the proxy?

        Yes, it will still clip everything that is covered by the clipper mesh.

        Turning the prototype into a V-Ray Proxy won't help.

          I meant turning the replicator in a mesh and turning that into a proxy - Proxies are supported by the clipper, are they not?

            Yes, they should be, but the Variation Texture in Mesh Part mode is not supported on a V-Ray Proxy, and you will need that in your scene.

              The issue should be fixed in the 2017.08.31 nightly build. It's still not working in RT GPU, as that proved to be even harder to fix.
