  • Lanczos AA filtering not covered in the Vray 4 MODO documentation.

I think Lanczos is not covered in the section of the documentation well. It looks like all the other filter types are, but this new default is not. Maybe I missed something, but many searches only turn up Lanczos being mentioned as part of a 3.x release and the new default, and its effect on moire patterns.

Since I didn't see it, I was using the mental ray for XSI documentation to see how it works, but apparently either those documents are wrong, or it is implemented differently in that version of mental ray than Vray's since it can enter negative values.

While it seems a minor thing to many users, especially MODO users since filtering has little effect on MODO renders, I think it would be good to have the default AA filtering method covered more than it currently is.

If I am wrong, and there is already ample documentation of it as there is for the other image filtering, please let me know. Happy to be wrong!

I don't think there is more detailed information about all the different filters even in the V-Ray for 3ds Max docs.

Will make sure to add a note about the Lanczos filter.

Just a general thought though: a mental ray reference for Softimage is a bad place to look for V-Ray information You could just ask here if something is missing.

      Best regards,
      Vlado
I only act like I know everything, Rogers.

Ha, well that goes without saying. I should know better than to reference mental delay, but that's where my other main rendering experience is outside MODO, unfortunately. :/

Don't get me wrong, TF is very responsive to customers as is the user base, but I'm just not use to this level of developer interaction and help that Chaos Group is providing. I think it will take a while to fully sink in, but I already deeply appreciate this level of support.

You guys obviously know your stuff, and that extends well beyond rendering and to the user experience in a day and age when that is quite rare. Thanks!
